Learn About Each Room:
The Attic
VIDEO TIPS - The AtticThe Attic holds your family expectations, what we call your emotional heirlooms. For instance, if you’re form a long line of doctors and don’t want to be one? You grapple with that tension of what is expected of you versus what you see for your life in the attic. If your grandparents came from humble origins and they want their children’s children to live a “better life” with creature comforts they couldn’t afford, you may be feeling stress when you choose to live in a yurt in the woods.
Sharing Stories
Here are a few of the shared stories in the book and you’ll find strategies for working on them there too.
- I’m terrible with money and now I’ve lost my savings.
- My ancestry is not my destiny. I want to marry who I choose.
- I grew up with enough money, and failed to save for my future.
- Everyone told me I had to go to a great college. Why?
- I’m from a long line of failed marriages. I don’t stand a chance.
Now we’d love to hear some of your own ”attic” stories. Think of them as seeds (of discontent) that make you want to change something going on in your life. The first step to any meaningful shift is to recognize what is wrong, or what is bringing you down (the seed) and then trying out a new approach or strategy (we call it a key process). You can share in the Key Processes section and let others know how it went. If it was a winner or you “cleaned up” the mess, you will have a takeaway idea (a pearl) and we encourage you to post your pearl for others to see.
