Learn About Each Room:

The Living Room

VIDEO TIPS - The Living RoomThe LR is for your social life, with friends, acquaintances and neighbors. But it’s also where you experience envy, peer comparison and all nature of “how do I measure up?” thoughts. You also get roped into obligations like helping a friend move, or going to an event you’d rather skip, so this is also the room for where you get over-committed. That’s why we call it “the giving room.”

Sharing Stories

Here are a few of the shared stories in the book and you’ll find strategies for working on them there too.

  • My girlfriends are like my sisters. But then I test their love.
  • I’m a terrible listener and it makes me feel like a bad friend.
  • I always feel I have to rescue my friends, and it exhausts me.
  • Women scare me. My husband is my best friend. Is that bad?
  • I’m sick of being the tour director. I want someone else to do it.
  • I can’t stand it when my friends become friends. I feel left out.
  • I want all new friends. My friends bring me down and bore me.
  • I flirt with my friend’s husband and then I feel terrible about it.

Now we’d love to hear some of your own ”living room” stories. Think of them as seeds (of discontent) that make you want to change something going on in your life. The first step to any meaningful shift is to recognize what is wrong, or what is bringing you down (the seed) and then trying out a new approach or strategy (we call it a key process). You can share in the Key Processes section and let others know how it went. If it was a winner or you “cleaned up” the mess, you will have a takeaway idea (a pearl) and we encourage you to post your pearl for others to see.
